Oil City Senior High Title I Involvement Policy
Oil City Senior High School encourages participation of the entire school community to insure progress for all students. This would include administrators, teachers, educational assistants, parents, and students.
At the beginning of the school year, parents will be informed by letter/newsletter/district website that the Senior High School is a Title I school which targets students who need supplemental support in reading. This information will describe how children have access to Title I services. Students will receive regular updates through the mail as needed. Conferences are scheduled by the Senior High School teachers at the parent's request, after a SAP referral, or as needed by any member of an IEP team. These conferences are held in the morning, during the school day, in the evening, or another mutual time agreed upon by the teacher and parents. Phone conferences and home visits are also encouraged. Parents and teachers can also communicate via email. Power School’s Parent Portal is available for parents to keep up-to-date on their child’s assignments and grades. Teacher’s email addresses can be accessed through this site. Many teachers also have a web page with specific information about their class. This can be accessed through the district’s webpage at www.ocasd.org.
The Title I Parent Coordinator and the Title I staff will provide parent meetings that address topics of interest to parents: i.e. homework tips, transition to Senior High School, using the Senior High School handbook/assignment book, services available to parents and students such as Power School Parent Portal, tutoring after school and access to the activity bus, hands on learning, reading nights, PSSA information, etc. Materials will be provided for home use at these meetings. During these gatherings, parents will be informed of Title I changes. All meeting notices will be sent out in a timely fashion and every effort will be made for translation or written translations for English as a second language participants. Title I funding can be used for transportation and child care so parents can attend the information nights. Parents are encouraged to participate in student and parent orientation nights offered before school starts and in open house nights at the school.
Surveys will be sent home in the spring so parents can be involved in the planning and review of the school's parent involvement policy. An annual meeting will be held in the spring to fully explain the Title I program, its requirements, and how important parents are to the success of their child.
The district in conjunction with Title I will provide information sessions so parents become familiar with the state standards, assessments to be given, and how they can work with their child to insure academic success.
Oil City Senior High School realizes that the parent school connection is vital for the well rounded success of all children. Ongoing communication between teachers and parents is encouraged to insure life long learners.
